While pointing out that the earlier education system was centred on getting government jobs, Chief Minister N Biren Singh has highlighted the need to transform the narrow vision of the earlier education system with a broader version for creating jobs as well as serving the nation. He was speaking at the launch programme of STAR Education Manipur organised by Department of Education (S) at Classic Grande, here on Saturday.
The STAR Education Mani-pur is a flagship programme of the Government of Manipur that envisages to transform the education system of Manipur through excellence in teaching and learning in classrooms, driving radical learning gains. Speaking on the occasion, CM Biren maintained that the new initiative would assist the teachers in adopting better ways of teaching to students and will instil sense of nationalism among the future generation.
Observing that today’s youth seem to forget their past history as they have been diverted by numerous issues, Biren stressed the need to re-educate the history and said that harmonious co-existence could not be brought without knowing the history. He ridiculed the previous leaders of the state who knew only how to win election but did not know how to make the people happy.
The CM further said that the state government, since its formation, has been doing things differently to serve the people in a better way. The government had earlier launched the School Fagathansi Mission with an ambitious objective to give renewed thrust towards the improvement of government schools both in terms of physical and manpower infrastructure, he added.
Mentioning that the state government had also taken up welfare schemes in many sectors, the chief minister contended that many youths of Manipur are now performing better than their counterparts in other states in different fields and added that such achievements have been made possible with the zeal on the part of people to do something new and prevalence of a better environment.
He also maintained that the government has always encouraged achievements of all individuals and would be ready to support those who are hard working. Delivering his presidential speech, Education Minister Sorokhaibam Rajen Singh stated that the education system in the state has considerably improved after the successful implementation of the School Fagathansi Mission of the government. To facilitate teachers in taking online classes effectively for higher education, recording studios have been set up in different colleges, he added. The minister also appreciated chief minister N Biren Singh for his far-sighted vision and initiatives taken up for developing the education infrastructure of the State.
He expressed hope that the STAR Education Manipur programme would facilitate teachers and students in their teaching and learning process and would play a key role in developing knowledge of students. It may be mentioned that STAR Education Manipur would adopt an innovative technology and data-driven platform, coupled with high quality learning materials, effective training and ongoing coaching for teachers and school leaders, and technology-enabled support teams.
Commissioner (Education) M Harekrishna, secretary to chief minister N Geoffrey, Education (S) director L Nandakumar, co-founders of New Globe Jay Kimmelman and Dr Shanon May and other officials attended the programme among others.
