STAR Education in collaboration with Ukiyo Bookstore celebrated World Book Day at Waikhom Leikai Upper Primary School
World Book Day is celebrated every year on April 23. The theme for 2024 is Read Your Way. The objective of celebrating World Book Day is to promote and encourage people, both young and old, to foster the habit of reading books. STAR Education promotes honing of literacy skills besides academic, therefore, the program celebrates and encourages students to read books.
To celebrate the occasion, STAR Education invited Elcy Sharma Shamurailatpam, a young writer and social activist to deliver an inspirational speech on “Joy of Reading” to the students of Waikhom Leikai Upper Primary School. She delivered a powerful speech on the importance of reading, how it will affect their life and career, increase their vocabulary as well as their memory. She also mentioned about maintaining a diary as a way of sharpening their mind.
The Headmistress – in – charge, Nameirakpam Mona also stated the importance of keeping reading as a hobby. She encouraged the students to read academically as well as additional books. Additionally, to foster the habit of reading, Ukiyo Bookstore donated around 10 books towards the school library. The children were thrilled to receive the books and promised to start reading.
The session ended with a book reading session with Regional Manager, Schools, Shangmila Dilbung. The children thoroughly enjoyed the session and sparked the interest of reading.
